Why not entertain yourself with my pal Johnny C’s fantastic request-a-sketch thread on the Bendis Board (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=147217). It promises page after page of excitement and intrigue!!!

Beware….

The Creeper!

I posted part of this sketch in that unfinished montage thing a couple of weeks back. But as I searched for filler to post while I was away, I thought that it was possibly worth showing all of. Anyway, if you’re keeping score, this is the first time I reprint something. Speculators be damned!!!

Swamp Thing!

23Jun08

Doo doo doooo doooo doo doo. You make my heart sing! Doo doo dooooo dooo doo doo! Swamp Thang!- Oh…umm heheh.. Didn’t see you there.

Never got the teeth right…but a sketch is a sketch is a sketch. Also, I put together a bunch of filler posts the night before I left, to be posted while I’m away….hence the lack of comments on the weather and sports game scores…… How about them Brooklyn Dodgers?!!

This week’s challenge (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=154657) is Darth Vader.

I expect this will be my last “live” post until I return on the 9th (though I have actually set up serval posts to publish while I am gone).

The concept here was, each image is of his eyes at different points, the classic helmet being the focal point.

Until we meet again,
Amedeo (though you can spell it Amadeo, if you’d like….everyone else does)

Apologies for the slow updates. On top of my day to day work, I’ve been doing extra stuff in preparation for my three week trip to Scotland (I leave this Thursday night). Anyway, due to all of this, I’ve been spending much less time sketching and in turn have much less to put up here.

Anyway, this week’s Benbo challenge was the Hulk. Here I decided to sketch Banner transforming into the Hulk….Enjoy…. or not…..

In case you are wondering “why is the Hulk tearing through Banner’s skin?” or “Why is Gamma radiation burning away Banner’s skin as the Hulk grows/tears out of him? That is not how I remember it from the comics/movie/tv show.”

The answer is “Tough shit! That is how I decided to draw it!”

In honor of the early release party/presentation of Blake Bell’s Steve Ditko book…. A sketch of Steve Ditko’s Objectivist superhero, The Question.

Here you go world. I’ve got questions.

Initially I was planning on doing this in color but it seemed more fitting to leave him in BLACK and WHITE.

Started this on Thursday…then I got sick. (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=152650)

Psuedo Text is lifted from the world famous “Hermit Crab in a Glass Shell” thread on the benbo! (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showpost.php?p=4710524&postcount=966)

Not happy with how the tape and the title text came out….but alas, such is life.

First: I’ve only read the beginning of Y. I know, I know, blasphemy.

Second: Some people (Augie  of CBR fame and Ron from iFanboy) are geeky about lettering, I on the other hand am geeky about photo reference (and lettering…among other things). I love seeing how an image comes from another…sue me (not really).

Ok, that said, Y the Last Man is J.G. Jones. Why (or Y), you might ask, would I say that? Well, as those of you in the know, may or may not know, Jones was the original cover artist for Y (the last man). During his time as such, J.G. cast himself as his model for Y. Something I’ve enjoyed about J.G.’s work, since reading his 52 cover blog (that Wizard criminally no longer has up on their website) is himself. Any time I can pick out his face somewhere in an image he’s created, it’s a fun easter egg for me to discover.   And due to this, in my mind, Yorick from “Y the Last Man” has always been JG.

Secondly, JG Jones has one of the greatest heads, in the history of headkind. Seriously. Both times that I’ve seen him speak at con panels, I’ve been fasinated by the structure of his face (and no doubt, this fuels my joy in finding him, in his own work). Which in retrospect is a pretty creepy thing to say, but it’s the truth!

So when I decided to go about making a Y sketch, I decided (that’s right, I used ”decided” twice make that three times, in one sentence…) that if I was going to draw Yorick I was going to have to draw J.G. Jones. And so this sketch came to be.

This is not finished. It’s the underpainting for Yorick, and the rough pencils for Ampersand.

This week’s Benbo challenge’s subject is none other than Mr. Brian Michael Bendis himself (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=152027)

It occurs to me, that at some point in each day I tend to do a Warm Up, Warm Down or Mid-day Reinvigoration Sketch. And yet, here I am not posting all of them. Why? Because most times, for some reason or another (usually time related) I end up leaving them unfinished.  I know, I know they’re just sketches….but regardless, I’ve wound up with a ton of incomplete sketches that I never posted….so I thought to myself, this being a SKETCHblog and all, why not share them here?

So without further ado…..
Unfinished Sketch Montage Number 1

In honor of Superman #676 I decided to do a Grundy sketch today.

Enjoy….or not.

Superman #676

12May08

For those of you who don’t know, this Wednesday will mark the release of Superman #676.

This issue in particular is note worthy because, Superman #676 will mark Vito Delsante (of Jim Hanley’s Universe, Speakeasy Comics, and Chemistry Set acclaim)’s first published work in one of DC’s flagship superhero titles. The journey this story has taken in order to see the light of day has been a long one, and now that it’s release is just around the corner, I wanted to say as a follower of Vito’s work that I hope everyone will take some time out of their Wednesday and check out his issue of Superman.

Hell, he’s even got his own Alex Ross cover. How cool is that?!!!

From DCcomics.com:

Written by Vito Delsante; Art by Julian Lopez and Bit; Cover by Alex Ross

In this story, originally scheduled to appear in SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL #9, writer Vito Delsante and artists Julian Lopez and Bit tell the tale of how the Man of Steel met the original Emerald Sentinel, Alan Scott! As a mysterious team of scientists tracks a dangerous threat headed toward Metropolis, Superman learns the first lesson of super-heroism from the man who wrote the book!

Really? Pokemon?! (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=150590) After a fit of humdrumery I got down to business.

[NOTE-Haha! I figured out how to use the 'more' button!]

Updates will be less frequent as I surf the mighty waves of work. Excitement on the horizon. Until then, why not sit back and enjoy some of the wonderful premptively written work process posts that I’ll be doling out here and there? While you’re at it, why not take a seat in your most comfortable leasuire suit and read your favorite Grant Morrison volume?

THOR!

02May08

So after listening to many an episode of the Crankcast (I found that it’s much easier for me to concentrate on more technical things, when I’m listening to conversations rather than music…shame on you Muxtape) I completed my Thor sketch. I tried to overlay some snow, but I could not find a way to do it that I was happy with, so I nixed that idea (for now at least).

This week’s Bendis Board Challenge is Iron Man (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=149979). Enjoy.

I had trouble with the gold element in the helmet. But I think it turned out ok in the end.

Week 6: Gollum

30Apr08

Ahhh, another Bendis Board challenge, this week: Gak! Guh-Guh-Gollum (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=149288)! Probably the one that took me the longest and the one that I’m the most unhappy with. I wanted to show more of the body, but I fucked it up and I was only happy with how the head ended up. However, I had the idea of hiding the rest in shadow and I kind of like the end result…..kind of.

Oh well. They can’t all be perfect.

Here’s what I ended up going with….

Here’s what it was going to be initially….which I hate…..

ODIN!!!

28Apr08

From watching “The Vikings” to getting turned on to “Northlanders” to screaming “ODIN!!!” at random people, Vikings have been on my mind as of late. So with opera and head smashing symphonies blaring (ie. Mars, Bringer of War!) I sat down and sketched out the idea for this last night. Today, with the musical aid of Whitechapel’s Post Apocalyptic Muxtape 1) I went about painting this.

I don’t think this is near finished….but after an extremely busy week, I thought it was about time to post something. So finished or not….here’s THOR, son of ODIN!

Week 5: Marv

17Apr08

Another week, another challenge. This week’s is Marv (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/showthread.php?t=148541) from SIN CITY. Out of all of these speed sketches, this one is definitely the one I’m proudest of (thus far). A slightly desaturated color palette seems to be the way to go with this style of inking (of course, since this was a SIN CITY character, I opted for only greys). Initially I was thinking of shading the bandages a bit, but I liked how they played with the blacks and greys enough to leave them be.

Apologies for how large this image is, but the rain made it extremely hard to scale down.
