This started out as a high contrast black and white image of Nick Fury, but as I continued on, I decided to color it. Initially I wanted to see how well I could change my first image to color using Photoshop’s hue utility, but I then remembered that since I had done so few tones, it wouldn’t colorize correctly. So I ended up painting more layers using dull colors in an attempt to keep a desaturated feel to the image. In the end, it came out looking as if it were somewhere inbetween a speed-painting and the color sketches I’ve been doing. Whatever it is, I kinda of like it. Perhaps I’ve begun to develope my coloring style….

In retrospect I think my recent curiosity about the Belgian comic book XIII might have subconsciously influenced this drawing, because Fury’s hair wound up bearing a striking similarity to ”XIII”’s hair…..oh well, I’m rather proud of how the hair turned out on this one, so I guess the influence was a positive one.
